Unfälle im Haushalt mit Kind

Accidents in the home with a child

The danger posed by charging cables is also too often underestimated!

Nearly two-thirds of accidents involving children happen at home. And two million children in Germany are injured at home every year, resulting in a trip to the emergency room!

The most common causes of accidents in infancy and early childhood, i.e. from seven months to four years, are as follows:

  • Swallowing objects
  • Poisoning / Chemical burn
  • Scald / Burn
  • Falls
  • Electrical accidents (sockets, cables)
  • drowning

95% of electrical accidents occur in the low-voltage range.

This clearly shows that the low-voltage range is far too often underestimated!

Low-voltage charging cables can be dangerous for babies and toddlers. During the oral phase, children explore their environment with their mouths. This happens primarily in the first and second years of life, sometimes continuing until the age of four. Saliva is electrically conductive, and charging cables therefore pose a risk that parents sometimes underestimate.

The fact is: Dangerous and fatal accidents involving charging cables are increasing worldwide – primarily due to the quality of power supplies. Here are a few important facts:

  • In general, there is a noticeable trend towards more fatal electrical accidents in the home. Warnings about low-quality power supplies are becoming increasingly common.
  • In tests, the majority of chargers and power supplies advertised as original products fail – for example , 397 out of 400 failed due to excessive voltage and the risk of electric shock, tested by: British Chartered Trading Standards Institute.
  • Seals, marks, and nameplates are often counterfeited . As a result, customers often have no way of finding out whether they have purchased a safe or dangerous product.
  • Even original manufacturers warn : Avoid body contact with the connector (electrical charging contact) when the charging cable is connected to a power source, as skin irritation and burns can result!
  • Saliva can cause damage and malfunctions in charging cables.

If the chargers and power supplies are of good quality, it should generally "only hurt our little ones a little"... "only" a scare – but who would want to put their child through that?

Worldwide, accidents involving contact with the end of charging cables are on the rise – serious accidents and even fatalities among small children are NOT isolated incidents! And every single one of these cases is one too many.

  • More information on this will be available in our next blog post.

Because we recognized this risk, we at GADGETTO Products have developed a novel and patented solution:

The CHARGING CABLE SAFETY GUARD – Developed and tested by parents and engineers!
